A good pair of socks is mainly determined by three characteristics: moisture absorption, breathability, and elasticity.

Pure cotton has good moisture absorption and breathability, but pure cotton fabric does not have elasticity. Can you imagine what a pair of non elastic socks would look like when worn on your feet? So wearing 100% cotton socks won’t be comfortable.

In order to improve the elasticity of pure cotton socks, elastic fiber spandex is usually added. Spandex has good elasticity, just like very thin rubber bands. Only a small amount of spandex needs to be added to make pure cotton socks elastic, thus meeting the three characteristics of moisture absorption, breathability, and good elasticity of a comfortable pair of socks.

The 100% pure cotton socks advertised on the market generally refer to socks that have a 100% cotton content other than elastic fibers. Figure 2 and Figure 3 show two types of socks that claim to be all cotton. From the proportion of fabric, it can be seen that the cotton content is not 100%. Generally, socks with a cotton content exceeding 95% can be considered all cotton socks.
